Hello, my name is River (she/her), and I am here to make your life easier!
Hello, my name is River (she/her), and I am here to make your life easier!
My background:
My professional journey began in 2017 after graduating from Erasmus University Rotterdam with a BSc in Psychology. For the next 6 years I worked in a recruitment department of a large multinational corporation. While in university, I volunteered for multiple student associations, focusing on human resources tasks, marketing and graphic design. Since 2021, I have been volunteering as part of my local LGBTQ+ community by organizing events and supporting its functioning with administrative tasks.
In total I have over 10 years of experience that highlighted my strengths in project management and administration. I realized I have a knack and a passion for problem solving, process & system creation, and supporting people in pursuit of their goals. With swift and direct communication, and overall work efficiency, I make sure to get things done.
Leveraging my strengths, I've enjoyed a few successful years in the corporate world. After a while, however, I hit burnout. This led to 4 years of in-depth personal journey, where I had to reevaluate how I view the world and myself in it. I now have a better understanding of what led to the initial burnout and what can be done to prevent it. Part of that was revealed to be my neurodivergency and chronic illness, which I suppressed for years trying to fit in. The other part was a strive for perfection with no regard for my personal limits and well-being. I had to commit to a slower way of living to escape toxic productivity and perfectionism.
So, here I am, venturing into the self-employment world to honor those commitments by building a more sustainable way of working for myself and others. I am excited to merge the skills that helped me succeed in my past with a healthier approach and a fresh perspective. I'd like to use that approach both in my own work, and in how I support your productivity.
My work ethos:
For the longest time, succeeding in the entrepreneurial world has been about survival of the most cutthroat, with laser focus on unsustainable growth and profits. The times, however, are changing, and I want to be part of that change. I imagine a world where being overworked and exploited is no longer a reality. Just like everything in nature, our bodies have cycles and limits. Demands of living under capitalism force us to ignore our boundaries, leading to constant overwhelm and illnesses. The less privileges you have, the more you have to suppress your needs.
Many neurodivergent and chronically ill people are especially struggling to keep up with the pressure of the corporate world or manual labor. We opt for self employment only to find ourselves overworked and having to wear all the hats in our own company (*insert the "I didn't want a 9-5 job anymore so I started my own business and now I work 24/7" meme*). While better time management or delegation sound like obvious solutions, how do you do it in practice?
As your virtual assistant, I bring my psychology background as a foundation behind my work. My continued education on the topics of mental health, human brain functioning, neurodivergency, all within the context of current oppressive systems, informs how I approach our collaboration.
I am eager to help you achieve your goals and express yourself through your business, putting sustainability above quick fixes. What do I think is the number 1 priority to ensure your business is sustainable for you? Respecting your body's boundaries and prioritizing rest and joy. This is a skill we all need to continuously practice in our day-to-day, which includes the way you work on your business. That is why I want to help you find ways to implement these changes in practice, whether through taking over some tasks, or adjusting your workflow.
Each person is different, and I am excited to create a unique support flow for our collaboration, to ensure you and your business thrive!
If you find yourself aligned with the vision I described, I am looking forward to getting in touch!
